It's Time to Do It

Last summer I bought a fig tree at the flower nursery. My husband and I kept talking about the need to take the tree out of the pot and plant it in the ground, but for some reason we never did get it planted... we'd just talk about it. After all this time, today I finally planted the fig tree in my yard... after a year. As I was digging the hole the thought came to me... "It's time to stop talking about it and do it." I believe that was the Lord speaking a word to my heart.

You know, we can talk about needing to get closer to the Lord, we can talk about doing something He has told us to do, we can talk about what we should do, but just talking about it isn't enough... you need to do it. If all you do is talk about a thing, you will never reap the benefits from it. That fig tree wasn't going to do much confined to that pot, so I wouldn't get to enjoy my reason for buying it in the first place. My husband and I talked, almost weekly, about how we ought to get it planted. What kept us from doing it was excuses- I can't do it today because it's too hot, I can't plant it right now because it's raining, I can't plant it because it has a fig on it so I'll wait and see what that fig is going to do, I'm too tired to plant it right now... excuses. As long as you find an excuse as to why you can't do something, you will talk yourself out of doing it.

What is there in your live that the Lord has dealt with you about and you know you ought to do it, you keep talking about doing it, and you plan to get around to it one day, but you aren't doing it? Are you justifying it by giving excuses? Are you going to just keep talking about it? There comes a time when you have to stop talking about doing it and just do it. Now is that time. Ask God to give you the grace, strength, and help you need to get up and do it.... you've talked about it long enough.
