“…And a little child shall lead them.” Isaiah 11:6b
Our youth director has a little three year old daughter who is a real “daddy’s girl”. Tonight toward the end of our prayer time I heard a voice ring out in the sanctuary…”DADDY!!” I knew without looking who it was. This happens almost every church service… when she sees her daddy, everyone knows it. She is always so thrilled to see him- even if she just saw him a few moments earlier. I have noticed that she is never intimidated about letting anyone know how glad she is to be with him. She is not embarrassed- she could care less what others think. She clings to him not wanting to let him go. And she loves to be held by him. And she is like this toward him everywhere she goes.
Watching the love and joy that she has for her daddy has been an illustrated sermon to me. Oh, that we had this kind of love for our Heavenly “Daddy”. This is what it means to love Him with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength. We should be glad to be with Him; we should cling to Him, wanting to be held closely to Him; we should not be embarrassed or intimidated about what others think about our relationship with Him. After watching this little girl, I get a clearer understanding of what the Lord meant when He said, “Except you become as children…” God wants us to be children who love their Father, who want to be with their Father, who will let Him be a Father to us and treat us like children.
Does this little girl’s attitude toward her daddy describe your attitude toward your heavenly Father? Do you look forward to being with Him? Is He the love of your life? If not, it’s not too late to humble yourself and become like a “child”- His child. He doesn’t care what age you are, He will still be a Father to you.
