WATCH OUT!!! Don’t step in that.
Watch where you are going.
Do you have two left feet, today or something? You keep stumbling.
How many times have you been walking along and then stopped just before your feet landed in some mucky rain puddle, dog poop, gooey melting chewing gum on the sidewalk, or even a deep crevice in the concrete?
If our minds are on something else, we often are not concentrating on where our feet are leading us. Our eyes are focused straight ahead, lost in thought, zeroed in on a task, swirled in worry, or even floating with glee. We are focused on ourselves, not what is around us. We don’t see the danger a few steps ahead.
On the other hand, there are those who never look up. They are focused on the ground. But often they, too, miss what is a few steps ahead because their mind’s eye is on their problems. In both incidences, it is easy for some obstacle to trip us up.
The Psalms say that God’s word is a lamp unto our feet. When we have the Word active and alive in us, it is our guide along this path called life. We are concentrating on worship, not our own issues. We see the beauty of God’s creations, His blessings and His comfort. When we don’t, and we are instead lost in our own world, evil sees the opportunity to slip in and trip us. We lose our balance and our stride.
Walking with the Lord keeps us from tripping up because we are obeying His word and following His ways. The Psalms also say –
I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. Psalm 119:101
But the good news is Jesus is walking with us no matter if we are focused on Him or momentarily on ourselves. His Spirit is inside us to guide us step by step like a faithful seeing eye dog guiding the blind person.
Before life leads you into unfamiliar territory, or you lose focus of where you are headed, stop and look to the Word of Life. Pray for direction. You won’t be steered wrong.
