When I was young, my mother would do little things to let me know she loved me. There would be a note in my lunch box. She’d cut my PB&J sandwiches into shapes with raisins and Cheerios for the eyes and mouth. In the morning I ‘d find my favorite outfit pressed and lying on the end of my bed when I had a big test. When I began to drive, she’d leave “Drive safe” notes on my dashboard. “I am thinking about you today” cards woud appear in my mailbox, just when I needed them.
Perhaps that is why God does it as well. He knows I will notice the little things that hint to the fact He is indeed loving me and watching over me. Yesterday,. I got an email from the US Society of the Blind that one of my devos I wrote two years ago was made into an audio. The volunteer who read it was excellent. He really brought it to life. It was, for me, God’s little pat on my back that I am doing His will.
A friend wrote to me that there is a cardinal which shows up in her yard when she is feeling a bit discouraged and she knows it is a love note from God. Another told me a roadrunner came up onto her driveway and made her dementia-ridden mother clap with glee. A warmth spread over her and she thanked God for the funny bird.
How will God show you He loves you today? Will He give you little signs that you might otherwise miss? Watch for them in anticipation of a child at Christmas waiting to open a present. Will it be a rainbow, a gorgeous sunset as you drive home, or a song on the radio your heart need to hear? Maybe it will come from the lips of a child, or in the eyes of a stranger. Could it be that Bible passage you know was placed just for you? Small serendipities which may be His love notes to you can crop up unexpectedly. That makes them all the more precious, doesn’t it?
