Can you see into my heart, oh, God? Can others?
My doctor detected a tiny heart murmur- nothing major, but today I had an echo-cardiogram just to be sure. Of course, God used that for a message, another life example of His love.
Sonograms are mind-boggling to me. How that gel-doused wand waving over my skin can reach down beneath all the muscle and tissue to “see” into my heart and watch it thump is beyond my comprehension. The technician knew what she was looking at, but to me it was just a pulsating blob in a fuzzy picture.
What does God see when He looks into my heart? He knows what He is looking at because He is the expert who made it. There may be things He detects that I am unaware of, or have decided to ignore. What is fuzzy to me is crystal clear in His eyes. I cannot hide my heart from my Father in Heaven, even if I try to hide it from myself.
Each beat, even though most of the time I cannot feel it, is precious in His sight. And, like my astute doctor, if there is a murmur, a skipped beat or something blocking His love from flowing through me, He will begin to call my attention to it. He may even put me through some tests so I can learn what is wrong. Perhaps He will go in and remove it.
Where is your heart this morning? Is it thumping wildly with enthusiasm or is it breaking little by little? Are not so pleasant thoughts murmuring in it right now? Nothing major, but something that need to be checked out before it gets worse. Eve if your heart has become hardened by the world or it seem fuzzy and not quite in rhythm, no matter. Your loving God can peer into it, even better than a sonogram, and get to -pardon the pun- the heart of the matter.
…and the secrets of his heart will be laid bare. So he will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!” I Corinthians 14:25
