Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God Psalm 62:11
Today is election day. We are blessed to live in a nation where we can choose our leaders and exercise that right. But too often, we place so much trust in these mere humans who have their own agendas, faults and ambitions. We have another choice- who we serve. Do we serve humans or God?
If we choose the first, we may be led astray by greed, pride, wrong thinking and false teachings. We may become disillusioned as we begin to see their warts, and perhaps hidden agendas. They don’t do what they promised. The don’t have the power they claimed to have. They feed their own egos and serve themselves instead of their constituents. Or they start out being good guys and gals, but the system corrupts them.
But if we choose the latter, that is if we choose to serve God, then we can serve the first in proper perspective. God’s power is just and righteous. He is Truth. His promises reign true. He doesn’t corrupt but restores, doesn’t have things to hide but, through His Light, exposes things for what they are.
Vote today, yes. But more than that pray today, tomorrow and throughout their elected terms for those in leadership roles at all levels- church, city, state and federal government – that they too will serve God first. God’s word has spoken once for all mankind to return to Him and be reconciled. Perhaps we need to listen, a second time, and a third and a fourth.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever – Amen
