And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” Luke 7:19
God had sent his spirit upon Jesus when he was baptised. He has said, “This is my Son”. John the Baptist told Jesus he was not worthy to tie his sandals and Jesus should be baptising him. Yet, now he asks if Christ is the Messiah, the Chosen One?
Or, was he sending his disciples to discover this for themselves. Each of us need to ask that question of Jesus. It is an individual salvation. We must each decide to follow Him or the world, daily. No one can make up your mind or mine. We can live our lives proclaiming His glory and talk about His grace and mercy. We can take others to church services and volunteer. We can carpool them to a Bible study and shepherd them. But when it comes down to the moment of decision, it is between them and Jesus.
And in times of trials and doubt when we feel alone, it is our decision as well. When the ministry we have taken on seems arduous and we doubt if we are up to the task, we have to decide who we follow. When life smacks us in the face and our hearts bleed and we scream it is just not fair, he must choose who we seek. What about when all is going superbly and we think we can take over the reins just fine now, thanks? Who do you believe? Who do you trust? Who will you follow?
Will you look to Christ each and every time, or seek another?
