And he came down with them and stood on a level place. Luke 6:17
When a friend was newly married they lived in an old duplex. The building wasn’t level any more. The ground had settled. You could lay a ball on the floor and it would roll to the other side. Great fun for their cat and baby. She figured she would get used to the tilt. Not really. Her home was a bit catty-wopus. It affected what she did, how she walked, where they lay stuff down. Her calves and the souls of her feet would ache. But, it also became the catalyst for them to save a bit of money so they could move.
I want my life to be level all the time, don’t you? But that is not life. When things are slanted, it affects our walk, what we do, how we act. But with God’s help, it can be. He can come down and “level the playing field”. He can straighten our paths, carry us up the hills and grab us if we start to slip down a slope. In all the uphill battles and slippery slopes, His steadfastness can make it all smooth and flat. If we let Him have that much control.
Are you trudging up a huge hill right now, or are you clinging to a small root hanging out of a cliff trying to get your footing? Call on Jesus. He will come down and set you on level ground. He will take away the burden of the climb by climbing with you, even carry you part of the way if your legs tire and ache. He will reach down and grasp your arm, pulling you up to place you back on solid ground.
But, you have to do your part – call on the Lord and accept His help. That’s the tough thing. We think we can put up with it. We can live that way. We will get used to the slant and compensate. But that doesn’t happen, does it? We get to the point of needing to move to a more level place. Just as my friend did. It took her time to figure that out. How long will it take me or you? If we call on the Lord, less time than we think.
Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Proverbs 4:26
