What do you depend upon? Do you depend on your job to give you a paycheck? Of course. Do you depend on the traffic lights to work or the warning signal at the railroad crossing to let you know when a train is coming. Sure. Do you depend on your computer to not crash and wipe out all the valuable info, pictures, messages and memories you have stored in it? Or at least, do you depend on the backup service you subscribe to, just in case? I do.
I have seen computers go from room size to palm size, and I still don’t trust them. So when I saw the commercial for an off-site backup service for pennies a day, I jumped on it. Sure enough, my ten year old computer began to get Alzheimer’s- it was losing stuff stored in memory or jumbling it up when I tried to retrieve it. As a freelance writer, my computer is my livelihood. I needed it to be dependable, and this service provided more security. When I see the little green dot next to my work, I feel more confident that it is safe somewhere in cyberspace.
In my life, I need an outside source on which I can depend as well. I need something outside my own little boxed-in world that I can call upon in times of need. I want reassurance that if things don’t run smoothly, I can reach out and find a source to make it all better again and restore my hope. When it comes to computers, I definitely can’t lean on my own understanding. How much more true that is with my life, and with the lives of those I love.
So now, come back to your God. Act with love and justice, and always depend on him. Hosea 12:6
Who do you depend upon? I have a little green dot called the Holy Spirit in my life that assures me that God is sovereign and whatever happens, He will never abandon me. He will restore my soul if I turn to Him for help. My faith can be boosted once again in the assurance that One that knows infinitely more than I do is in control. My work, my life and my memories are secure in Christ if I let Him have access to all that I have and all that I am. What a comfort to go about my day depending on Him!
