After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree The Book of Revelation 7:1
My son called me. He lives far from us in a very busy city. He was walking downtown and went to cross the street when a taxi came barreling around the corner and hit him. Witnesses say he flipped up and over the cab, then floated upright to the ground as if someone was carrying him. He was unscathed, except for a sore hip. He now believes more than ever in the power of Mom’s prayers . . . and in angels.
Angels are not chubby, harp-playing Christmas cherubs or arrow shooting babes near Valentines Day. They are not our deceased ancestors. They are, according to the Bible, powerful Heavenly beings sent to earth as messengers and protectors. Mostly, they cannot be seen by the naked eye, but that doesn’t mean they are the stuff of fairy tales.
Amy Grant wrote a song about the unseen angels watching over her in her life many years ago. Paul tells us in Hebrews 13:2 –Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Angels sent messages to the shepherds that the Christ child was born, and to Lot in Sodom. They are evident in prophet visions in Isaiah, Ezekiel and in Revelation.
How comforting that our Heavenly Father loves us so dearly and watches over us so closely that He sends his Heavenly realm helpers to our rescue, even if we do not ask.
All He does is for a purpose, good or bad because He is a Sovereign God. He is to be obeyed. Angels know that and do His bidding. So should we.
