And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7
The Good News was brand new. Christ had just risen and ascended into Heaven, leaving his disciples with renewed faith and hope. How could they not spread the Word? Even the rocks seemed to cry out. In a time of burdened taxation, and oppression, in a time of mistrust in the government that was ruling them, a time when their religion was scoffed, the people heard the news that God cared, that He had come into their midst, that He offered a way out of their hopelessness.
Sort of sounds like today, doesn’t it? Many people have a dim outlook on our future as a nation. They do not trust the government. They are scoffed for being Christians, and discriminated against. But more than ever, this world needs the Good News and God is offering a way for it to be spread. The Internet can touch hearts we will never see, reach out to hands we will never grasp. Through Facebook, twitter, YouTube and texting, the Word of God can increase. The numbers can grow, and more lives turned around. We who follow Christ belong to the new priesthood. We must be obedient in the faith.
How are you using the Internet? Are you just sending pictures of cute puppies through cyberspace, or the message of Hope? Are you passing on gossip or the Gospel? Are you keying in your thoughts or His promises? Are you reaching out to tell others about you, or Him?
Perhaps that is something we all need to ponder. We have been given the opportunity to live in a special time. Communication has never been greater than now to spread the message of Christ to a hurting, seeking world. Break through the spam, and bring people the reverse- maps that lead them to the Way, the truth and the Life.
