Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Psalm 105:4
I met a lady recently. She seemed nice enough, in fact she was quite bubbly. But something about her made me feel very uncomfortable. Then I figured out why. There was a forcefulness about her personality. She insisted on standing too close to me. I found I was holding my breath. I’d step back a pace or so, and she’d move forward. She was literally in my face.
Most of us have our personal space. It is a small area around us that is our invisible protective territory. We have to invite people to step into it. We choose whom we wish to draw nearer to us, to be up-close and personal and intimate with us – on our terms and when we say it’s okay. If someone invades that space, we feel threatened.
God doesn’t invade spaces. We must invite Him into our lives, into each situation. Though He never leaves us stranded, like the star player on the special ops football team, he sits on the sideline bench until we need him to rush in and make the score. We have to invite God into our game. Unlike that bubbly lady, if we step back, He won’t step forward- until we say to. He waits patiently for our prayer, “Come Lord, come.”
But, is that much of a relationship? It seems rather one-sided, doesn’t it? If we are to have a deeper walk with our God, we must continually invite Him into every aspects of our lives. He wants to be up close and personal. He wants to take on our burdens and rejoice in our happiness, to bless each of us and keep us from harm.
Can you see Him? He is waiting. How close will you let God come today?
