ll too often we forget the very foundation of our salvation … the cross. We focus on the gory scene each year as we prepare to celebrate Christ’s resurrection. But, how many of us turn our eyes toward the cross of Calvary daily, considering the great price paid for our redemption?
Let’s take a moment to consider the hill called Mt. Calvary.
“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.” (Luke 23:33)
This easily leads us to consider the Psalmist’s words in Psalm 121:1, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”
Calvary is the hill whereupon our eyes must stay fixed, not just one season out of the year, but daily. Although the work has been finished and Jesus is no longer on the cross or in the grave, this “hill” tells the greatest love story ever written and represents everything Christianity stands for. It remains to this day a reminder of an unmatchable price so passionately paid for a people so undeserving and so unworthy … the shed blood and broken body of a Saviour who so lovingly gave all He had to give.
Today and EVERY day, keep your eyes fixed on the “Hill” from whence cometh your help, the hill called Mt. Calvary where the horror of the cross has become the beauty of our salvation. Praise ye the Lord!
Dear precious Lord, I stand in awe of the price you so unselfishly paid for my redemption. I thank you for what Mt. Calvary means to me, not that I still see you hanging on that cross, but because of the blood that was spilled and the completed work that has been done … for ME! Your love is so overwhelming, your sacrifice so awesome, your grace so perfect, your mercy so enduring, your cleansing so perfect, your redemption so free, your provision so complete. All I can do is stand in awe of You, my precious, precious Lord, amen.
“O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory. Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth; That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.” (Psalm 108:1-6)
