I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. Ecclesiastes 3:15
This insightful statement comes after the famous “Unto everything there is a season” passage. You know – time to live , time to die, time to reap and time to sow, time to build up and time to tear down, etc.
It’s all God’s timing, if we are wise and let it be that way. But way too often we are about our own business, doing what we think is important, or handling what we think is the most on fire at the moment. Like the boy with his finger in the dam, no matter how hard we try, more leaks pop up that need our attention as well. Some are just outside of our reach, but we stretch ourselves anyway.
Wisdom is learning what business God has given you to be busy with, and what you need to let go of and put in His capable hands. A time to cast away stones and a time to gather them all together. (vs.5) and a time to keep and a time to cast away (vs.6).
The more we learn to let go and let God as the saying goes, the more we can learn to discern – that’s my new motto and my goal. Learn to discern what God is giving me to handle and has thus equipped me to do so. Learn to discern what to drop from my hands and place at the foot of the cross. Learn to discern what to hold close to my heart and wait for instructions as to what to do with it. Learn to discern how to go about my Father’s business and to make it my own. To not take on more than I am supposed to handle that day so I can truly do all things through Christ who gives me the strength to do it.
Perhaps when I do not feel that strength being doled out, He is telling me it is not something He has given to me to handle. That this thing is none of my business, but is His.
