Psalm 72:6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth!
When grass is cut, it has less defenses against heat and drought. It needs water and will thirstily lap it up. The shorter it is cut, the less it can retain moisture. It needs the water from the Heavens to rain down to revive it from the shock of being cut. What a sweet smell it produces when a gentle soaking rain hits it’s blades. You can almost hear the earth sigh in gratitude.
Do you know someone who seems to have been mowed down by circumstances in their lives? Their defenses have been whacked. They’ re thirsty for comfort. Perhaps it is a coworker, a family member – or even you yourself.
God in Heaven can rain down love and mercy and help revive us. He knows when we are depleted and vulnerable. He understands when we need daily strength during the low periods of our lives. The soothing rain for a parched soul may come from a hymn, a Bible passage, even an innocent observation from a child. It can also come from another person who obediently gives their time and love to be His hands and feet. Kindness is the root of a lot of healing growth. It helps us latch onto hope and lap up the welcomed relief.
Is our Lord asking you to be a gentle rain in someone else life? Perhaps He is sending someone to quench your soul. The gently soaking showers will come just when we need it the most. Trust in that. God’s mercy and goodness will rain down.
