Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Psalm 25:4
Today, we do not need to worry about getting that paper map to fold up correctly. I rarely could. Nor do we have to wonder if the guys will stop and ask directions or just continue to drive around in circles. We have cyberspace. On our Blackberry or cell phone we can call up maps and directions. In our cars, we have Garmin or TomTom or a built in GPS with a soft, calm voice telling us exactly where to turn and where we are going. It can even warn us of delays, obstacles and suggest alternative routes and detours. Like the commercials say, “There ‘s an Ap for that.”
God in His eternal plan gave us a Holy GPS centuries ago. Abram left his homeland and was led to the Promised Land. The Hebrews, even though they wandered in the wilderness to learn obedience, were guided by a pillar of fire and Moses’ faith. The Magi followed a star to the Christ child’s manger. An angel led Joseph and Mary safely to Egypt. Jesus told the fishermen to drop their nets and follow Him. He gave us the Holy Spirit and His Truth to dwell in our hearts and become our internal guide. The Bible and the prompting of the Spirit are our GPS- God’s Protective System.
If you need direction in your life – and who does not? – turn to Christ. Seek Him as the Magi and the shepherds did. He came to earth to show us the Way, the Truth and the Life. Follow and He will help you over the bumps, around the obstacles and past the pitfalls on this road called life. Isaiah and John the Baptist called us to make a way straight in the wilderness to prepare a way for the Lord’s coming. The Truth is, He has already done that. All we need to do is follow directions.
