He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4
Isn’t that verse a wonderful picture of protection and security? The pinions on the wings of birds are the large flight feathers they can fan wide to catch the wind. Imagine an eagle spreading it’s mighty wings, making a tent for it’s young to burrow into and hunker down against foul weather. Dry, warm, snugly.
The buckler was a small shield strapped on the arm to thwart the sword blows of an opponent. So with one “arm”, God shields us like a huge wing, and with the other he baps away any on- coming threats. Refuge and strength, shield and shelter.
What an awesome God we worship!
Holy Father, thank you for being our refuge and our shield when earthly battles or supernatural ones threaten us. May we always turn to you. Amen.
