I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning. Psalm 130:5-6
Wait for it. I hear that phrase a lot in commercials, TV shows and movies. Wait for the expected reaction. Wait for the response that will bring the predictable laughter, or joy or an “Uh, huh. Thought so.”
The Psalmist waits in hope for the Lord, and while waiting he continues to trust. He knows God is a God of promises kept. He relies on God’s protective love. Like a night watchman, he looks cautiously for any movement in the dark, and is filled with relief when the first rays of the morning sun creep into the honey and violet sky. Then the enemy that could be lurking will be easier to see and the watchmen less vulnerable to a surprise attack. He made it through the night- a job well done.
Waiting takes patience and confidence. I must admit often times I am lacking in both. But the Word of God brings me comfort and strength. All I need to do is to hold fast to His Truth and let His word be a lamp unto my feet so I don’t stumble over something lurking in the blackness that I cannot see. He gives me just enough night vision to stay close to Him, where I need to be. His Spirit watches out for me.
No matter how long I am in darkness, I have learned that the dawn will come. And it always comes just at the right time – God’s time. Wait for it.
