Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Psalm 105:1
In one sentence, the Psalmist spells out our dutiful response to God’ s goodness towards us. In return for His mercy, His loving grace and His protection what should we do? Three things we must do – 1) Give Him thanks (and praise), 2) call on Him when we sense danger or weakness in our lives, and 3) witness to others what God has done for us.
Isn’t that the definition of the Christian walk? Paul wrote in Philippians that we are to give him thanks in everything (4:6). Scripture tells us when we are anxious, distraught or overwhelmed we are to call out to Him and once again surrender our will to His. When temptations tug at us, we are to dispel them in the name of Jesus. And once He has acted in our lives, we are to share the Good News with others, proclaiming how He can help them, comfort them and strengthen them just as He has for us.
Until we acknowledge Christ as our King, and Lord over our lives, can we really thank Him? Will we call upon Him or proclaim Him to others? Not until He reins in our hearts, and takes over the reigns of our lives, can we truly point to Him. And that, well . . . is the point, isn’t it?
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
