I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart! Psalm 119:32
Imbedded in the longest Psalm of all I found this little verse. Enlarge my heart. Cardiac surgeons perform surgeries when someone’s heart is enlarged. But God, through the Power of the Holy Spirit , seeks to increase our hearts. We have a big hearted God who cares about every hair on our head, every tear we shed, each moment we dread and gives us our daily bread. He wants us to care that much about others as well.
When Jesus comes into our hearts, it grows tremendously to give Him space. In fact, I guess you could say God was in the heart transplant business millenniums before man was. Grateful for what He has done for us, we see people in a new perspective, don’t we? Christians are givers and sacrificers by nature – a nature the world doesn’t understand but is desperately drawn to because it is good and kind and generous.
To run in His commandments, not just plod along putting one step in front of the other out of duty, we need our spiritual heart strong and pumping. Jesus is the Blood shed for us, it is His love that rushes through our spiritual heart, enlarging it. He gives us renewed joy to do His will and run the course.
If your heart is not beating wildly for Him, then stop and listen. Read Scripture, wait in quiet prayer, ask for renewed strength and peace. Soon, you will hear it thumping away- a sure sign Jesus is enlarging inside you to encompass all your needs and still have enough to give to others.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26
