Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God. . . Psalm 62:11
A curious phrase. If God spoke it once, how could David hear it twice? That I had to look up. It seems that was a Hebrew way of emphasizing importance. It is I guess like our phrase “Say it again” or “Let me repeat that”.
But I also see it as confirmation. Power belongs to God- in fact everything belongs to God and we do as well. Is there something you are pondering in your heart that you think may be God calling you to action but you are just not sure? Then consider this.
Is your uncertainty a lack of faith in Him or you? Do you fill unequipped or unworthy to do what you think He is calling you to do? Being called to serve Him in a new way can feel like a child standing at the edge of the pool pondering the first leap into it and into the parent’s arms. Sure the waters look scary, but the child has water wings on their arms and their loving parent whom they can trust to catch them and teach them to swim. It’s a leap of faith. Serving God is no different. Go ahead and jump.
Still not sure? Then ask for confirmation. See who God brings to you to say what you need to hear in order to confirm you are to proceed. It may come from anywhere. Out of a hymn, or a prayer, or a friend’s voice, even a Bible passage. God has said it once, but you will hear it twice, maybe even three times. God has the power to do that.
Dearest Lord, You call your people to act in Your name. Confirm Your will for us, then let us jump into service, knowing the power will come from You. Amen.
