The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; . . . (taken from Psalm 146:8)
I have lived near a stream that flooded. When the waters rise, they bring in surging swirls of mud , debris and who knows what with it. It gets caught in the branches of the trees, especially the younger saplings. They get so heavy they touch the ground.
After the waters reside, in order to save the branches from cracking under the weight of the gunk, you have to pick the stuff off and then hose them down. Water removes the damage done by water.
You see where this is leading, right? Our brains are flooded everyday with stuff we think we are sloughing off, but it can affect us. When the gunk of the world begins to weigh you down and you feel like you are over your head, hang on. The waters will recede with prayer. God will not let you drown though the waves crash over you. He will lovingly reach down (sometimes through other people’s help, or a passage in His Word, or a sermon, or a hymn) and help remove the debris that is bowing you down, so you can once again stand tall in your faith.
The process may seem as if He is trying to drown you again as His Holy water sprays over you to cleanse you from the gunk that is weighing you down. But bear with Him. The Son is shining in your life. Your Limbs will be saved. You will bear fruit.
Question to ponder– what is weighing you down today that you need to release in prayer?
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever Pslam 146:5-6
