“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” Psalm 105:4
Think about the last time you were trying to find someone in a sea of people. Was it easy? Could you find them right away, or did your eyes have to scan a while until you saw that familiar brow or chin? Recall the “aha!” moment when you saw them then raised your hand to wave. Relief- you found them! They see you. They smile back. All of a sudden you felt the emotions rise, didn’t you? Recognition. Joy. Anticipation.
Is that how you seek out God in all circumstances? Do you search for His face in the sea of confusion and opinions? Is there a moment of relief when You know He really is there in the midst of all that is going on? Do the emotions and the resolve rise in your chest? Oh, I hope so.
Because Our Lord is always there for us. I remember an old bumper sticker that said “If God is not in your life, who moved?” Sometimes it is very hard to find Him when we are in the middle of a crisis, or even wrapped up in a joyous occasion. We take our eyes off of Him and fill our vision with the enormity of what is going on around us. As the saying goes, we lose sight. Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, refocus and seek Him out again. There He will be, in the sea of faces, smiling in loving anticipation. Aha!
Holy Lord, thank you for always being there for me, your child. Thank you for calling my name, seeking me out when I cannot see You, and filling me once again with Your grace. When the times come that I turn and look away, forgive me, and help me seek You out again. I humbly praise You because Your love sought each of us first. Thank you, my Redeemer, my Rock and My eternal source of hope. Amen.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in his wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of his glory and grace.” Hymn by Helen H. Lemmel
