“I will walk in my house with a blameless heart. I will set before my eyes no vile thing.” Psalm 101:2-3
Think about this. We all should.
If Jesus stood at the door and knocked where you lived, would you be dashing around, cleaning things up and hiding what He wouldn’t want you to be seeing. Would you flick off that R rated movie or soap opera or reality show with the bad language that was blaring on TV? What paperbacks would you have to hide and what video games? What would be playing on your radio, or what CDs would you have to toss in a drawer? What magazines would hit the trash?
Today’s world bombards us with foul language, angry music and horribly sexually explicit and violent forms of entertainment. It is hard not to get interested in it to some extent. Even the prime time TV shows are slipping in things they would have not dared to do a generation ago. The New Age of tolerance and washed down religion is invading many homes in America. Just because you may not have young children around is no excuse to tolerate the polluting of your mind with “adult content”.
Prayerfully consider what images you are exposing yourself to in the confines of your home. Do they take precedence over the Word? Is your Bible collecting dust on the shelf? If you have been feeling really angry, or stressed, perhaps it is a result of the things you have been listening to or watching. Try for a month to listen to only Christian or classical music, to only watch movies and TV shows with no sex or violence, and to not read the gossip magazines or listen to the Celeb shows on TV. In fact, if you watch TV at all, watch only religious based shows- there are tons of them on cable. AND spend more time reading the Bible and talking with God. See if your attitude improves. Things to ponder.
Heavenly Father, there are so many choices in our world today. More than at any other time in history. Guard our hearts, our eyes an our minds to only absorb that which is pleasing in Your sight. Do not let the Devil get a foothold. Let Your Spirit convict us, train us and help us discern what we are watching and listening and reading. May we reflect Your will and purpose and grow closer to You daily. Amen.
“Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. ” Ephesians 4:19-20
