“You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” Psalm 45:7
To be anointed with fragrant oils is to be set aside as special. Oils linger, even if you bathe. The fragrance seeps under your skin and stays with you. No wonder it represents the Lord’s blessings!
If you serve the Lord and love righteousness, He will anoint you with the fragrance of His grace and mercy, no matter what circumstances come your way. You are His child- the child of the King. He loves you more than is humanly possible. You always have His audience and you can call on Him when you need protection. He holds nothing back, but provides the best and most precious oils for you, because you claim Him as Lord.
If you are feeling not so blessed or weighed down by the things in your life, open your soul and breathe in the fragrant oils of joy. They are still there, just beneath the surface, lingering, no matter what you go through. You are annointed by the most precious commodity – the blood of Christ and marked as His own, forever. Time, life, evil or death – nothing can wash it away if God has gotten under your skin and lives in you. He will set you above your companions who may not believe as an example of His love and goodness. They, too will get a whiff of His grace.
Holy God, You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. You have accepted me as Your child and anointed my life with Your love and grace towards me. Let me never lose the scent of that fragrant joy of being Yours. No mattter the circumstances, I can count it all as joy because the joy I have in You is eternal. Amen.
