“You see the peoples crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and, yet you an ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” Mark 5:31
Crowds of people were pressing around Jesus asking for him to heal them, or just out of curiosity, were there to see who this man was. Everyone had been talking about him and his powers. Out of all of those self-seekers and gawkers was one poor woman with chronic bleeding who just reached out to touch his robe with her fingrertips. That is all you need to do, her faith told her. Just touch the hem of his robe.
Today, many are still seeking God, but for the wrong reasons. They want Him to give them what they want, or to make things happen in a certain way. There are scoffers who want to make Him into an antiquated myth that is not relevant. Others want to dilute Him into a benevolent being to be worshipped in any shape or fashion, others want to shape and fashion Him into their image.
But, in the midst of all the self-seekers, there are the faithful who realize His power in their lives. Ones who recognize His holiness with awe and humility. Ones with faith that tells them to draw near and touch Him because He has touched their hearts and souls. They know He is the promise keeper, the healer and the way to eternal peace. He feels their touch in the crowd. And he turns and draws near. Just like the woman, he stops and seeks them out to give them comfort.
Reach out and touch Him in your prayers. He will turn to you to give you comfort and peace. Whatever it is that is bothering you, Jesus’ love can cure it. He is the balm for your soul. If you will only believe honestly that He has the power to change your life, then he will feel you reaching out to Him and respond. He will seek you out in the crowd and bless you, too.
Dear Lord, I truly believe that You are the Holy One, worthy of praise. I believe You can change lives and heal both bodies and hearts. I thank You for taking on my sins and afflications on the cross and providing the way to eternal peace. I reach out to touch You today so you can fill me with Your loving grace. Seek out my heart and know that my faith rests solely in You. Turn to me when I call, and renew my soul with Your loving touch today, and every day until You come to take us all home. Amen.
