“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads because your redemption is near.” Luke 21:28
As kids, my age group grew up with super heroes in the comic books and that new thing called TV. My favorite was Mighty Mouse. “Here I come to save the day!” I would pretend I was a damsel in distress and he would swoop down and gather me up and we’d fly away together. Now I have a better super hero- I have Jesus.
Jesus is explaining the end times to his disciples in this passage from Luke. He tells them when all seems lost and even the stars are shaking not to cower but to look up in hope because He will be coming. Coming to save the day and take us all home. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
But, while I await His second coming, whether or not it is in my lifetime, I do not have to wait for Him. He is here beside me and living inside me. Whenever times get tough or even the heavens seem to shake my world, I can call on His name and look in hope. I can lift my head above the situation I am in and know my Redeemer is near- as near as my own breath – to guide, comfort and love me. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
Dearest Lord, thank you for always being near. You said through the gospel of Luke to be careful or my heart will be weighed down with the anxieties of life (21:34). Let me heed your words and instead, rise above the circumstances and lift my head, my voice and my soul to you, my King, Redeemer and Saviour. In You alone can I dwell in safety, You alone are my refuge and strength. Amen.
“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
