“If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from you eyes…because you did not recognize the time of God coming to you.” Luke 19:41,44
Jesus wept over Jerusalem. He said these words over the city where God had promised to dwell in the Temple. I believe today, He weeps over us when we do not recognize Him in our lives.
When things get hectic or overwhelming do we run around like a chicken with it’s head cut off or do we fall to our knees and be still? Fretting is like running in place- you exude a great deal of energy but get nowhere. That just leads to more frustration.
God is the author of peace and He so wants us to receive His gift of it. I must admit that has not been an easy lesson for me to learn. I am a worrier by nature. I suspect my first words as an infant might have been “What if” instead of “Mamma” or “Dada”. How many wasted hours and stressful heart beats have I caused myself until I finally opened my soul’s eyes and went to the source of comfort, my Savior and Redeemer?
If the walls are closing in, or the task seems insurmountable, it very well may be that God is trying to get you to turn to Him. There is rest in the midst of all that is going on, if you seek Him.
After the disciples had gone out on their first mission trip, they came back and reported all at once to Jesus what they had seen and done. Mark tell us ” Then, because of so many people were coming and going, they did not even have a chance to eat.” (6:31). Sound familiar? Look what Jesus said to them in this verse. I can almost see him with His hand on their shoulders and smiling sympathetically -“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Heed His Word – God is coming to You. Are your eyes hidden?
Heavenly Father, the author of peace and the lover of concord, grant me the wisdom to draw near to You at all times of my life. Let me lose control to gain tranquility, knowing that Your ways are the best ways, Your timing the most perfect, Your wisdom the most sure. Let me not miss out on the peace you offer me today, and every day of my life until I at last rest eternally in Your arms of love. Through Jesus’ name. Amen.
“While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” Luke 24:36
