“But will God really dwell on earth with men? The heavens, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built?” 2 Chronicles 5:18
This passage is from Solomon’s prayer as he dedicated the Temple in Jerusalem. In it was the Holy of Holies where God promised to dwell. Did Solomon know how prophetic his words were? Did he know over nine hundred years later God would come to dwell in a child who would die for the sins of the world within eyesight of the Temple rebuilt where Solomon’s had stood? Did he know his name would be Emanuel- God With Us?
The Heavens indeed cannot contain the vastness of our God. Yet He chose to dwell with us through His Son Jesus, and today His Spirit dwells inside those of us who proclaim Him as Savior. God chooses to limit Himself in order to be with us, in us and near us all the days of our lives. Knowing the Temple would be destroyed again within a generation of His Son’s sacrifice, God chose a new place to dwell – in our hearts and souls. Never wonder if God is there in any situation you go through. He is as close as your heart beat. Will you rededicate your temple to Him today and everyday?
Heavenly Father, the vastness of all You have created cannot contain Your majesty, Your Glory and Your essence. Yet You choose to dwell in temples of flesh and blood who can become weak, diseased and flawed. How wonderful that You love us so much, desire to be in our presence so dearly that You choose to dwell in each of us who proclaim You as Lord over our lives, Your Son as our Savior and Your Spirit as our Guide. Let us never forget where You are and Who You are. And Father, let us shine forth and draw others to You so You can dwell in them as well. Amen.
“On that day, you will realize that I am in the Father and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:20
