“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure, it comes from the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus went before us, has entered on our behalf….” Hebrews 6:19-20a
In the Hebrew Temple, there was a curtain that contained the arc of the covenant. It was so holy, it represented the very presence of God-where He would come and sit between the two golden winged heavenly creatures called the Seraphim and Cherubim. Once a year, only the High Priest could enter behind the curtain (or veil) into this Holy of Holies to offer atonement for the people. When Jesus died on the cross that veil was torn, granting everyone who comes through Him direct access to the Father God.
What hope- what an anchor in times of storms, and in times of smooth sailing. It is like a direct line to God- He never hangs up. All we have to do is pick up the receiver and there He is. Or perhaps in more modern terms, he is always on-line ready to instant message. One of my friends wrote how she got angry with her grown daughter who told her she was going on vacation for a few days and was turning off her cell phone. How dare she even think of being out of communication for that long! Then she was convicted that perhaps God felt the same hurt and rejection when she did not stay “in touch” with Him.
Father God, You made the Way through Your Son’s sacrifice for us to come directly to your throne – to kneel before you, or to climb into your lap and be comforted. You are there at all times. Forgive me for not always hearing your voice call to me through the receiver, for not checking in and talking with You more often. You are my hope and my anchor, You bring security to my soul. You will never forsake You child. I can stand firm in the promise. I praise You for that, and once again humbly fall on my knees before You . Amen.
“The promise is for you and your children and all who are far off – for all whom the Lord Our God will call.” Acts 2:39
