“You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.” Psalm 17:14
We all want the best for our kids. That’s natural. We want them to be healthy and strong, to be smart and have lots of friends. We want them to have security, to give them their heart’s desires and for them to grow up and become professionals who will make a decent living.
Our Father in Heaven wants that for all his children. But like us moms here on earth, He also knows we have weaknesses to overcome and choices to make. In His love, He let’s us do that even though He knows the choices may be wrong. We must, at times painfully, watch our kids grow and make choices of their own, not always the greatest ones but that’s a part of learning. God knows our potential. He is the one who gave us our talents. He knows our kids’ potentials, too. If anyone knows our kids better than we do, it is our Lord. He knows what they will turn out to be, what will happen to them in five years, or even twenty.
Our job? Raise them up in His statutes and show them His love. Teach them how to talk with Him and rely on Him. Encourage them and pray for them that one day they to will choose Him as the ruler of their lives and the Saviour of their souls. That is true wealth- wealth beyond measure.
We want what is best for our kids, no matter what their age. Give them to God. He has plenty to give to them, and when they receive Him the hunger in their hearts for love and mercy will be stilled and they will store up their treasures – in Heaven.
Heavenly Father who know us inside and out and loves our children more completely than we ever could, draw us all nearer to you and, through your loving grace, bestow upon us your mercy and guidance. Make your voice so clear that we can hear it over the din of the world and choose to followYou, our Shepherrd, when you call us to Your side. We pray this through Your Son who sacrificed all for us and now sits at your right hand for all of eternity, preparing a place for all of us who believe. Amen
“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 17:11
