You Know Better
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore I will punish you
for all your iniquities. Amos 3:2
“You should have known better.” “That is not how I raised you.” “Don’t you play innocent with me. You know the rules.”
Words of parents when their older children do something wrong. Growing up as the child of a judge, I felt as if the eyes of the community were especially on me to walk the straight and narrow. Now, I have another judge and I bear His cross around my neck. Throughout my adulthood, people have watched to see if I am still walking the straight and narrow, to see if the storms of life have rocked my faith boat enough to topple it. God is watching as well.

When in doubt . . .use words
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
Does the idea of evangelism make you quake in your shoes? Perhaps you believe you just don’t know enough yet about Scripture. You are afraid people will have questions of which you don’t have the answer. Or, maybe you feel you’ll stumble over your own words and always think afterwards, why didn’t I say that instead?
We concentrate too much on how people will receive us, don’t we? We don’t want to flub it and turn them off to Christ. We don’t want to sound like dummies. We don’t want others to turn up their noses at us.

Should We Tell Them?
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,and the wonders that he has done. . . so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments . Psalm 78:4, 7
Kids have selective deafness. They can ignore the loud voice telling them to go clean their room yet quite easily concentrate on the whisper of a friend. In a way, I guess we all do. We filter out what we do not want to hear. At times, we even filter out God.

Hidden in My heart
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Psalm 40:10 – I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
from the great congregation.
When God touches our lives, it can be so powerful, so meaningful, so humbling that we keep it to ourselves. One time, that happened to me. It was almost four years before I openly revealed how God had blessed me so deeply. Was that wrong?

O Holy Night
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
At the time of the Lord’s birth, the Jewish world was looking for Him. Little girls dreamed of being the chosen one who would be God’s appointed mother of the Messiah. The prophets, the seers and all were looking for something big to happen – the earth and the heavens were all pointing to a major event.

We’re All Leaders
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Whether or not you are in any type of leadership position, you have the potential to lead people to Christ. You have people who follow you in one way or another. Paul was full of wisdom as he beckoned the people to follow him but only as he followed Christ. Essentially, he was leading people to Christ through his life and the example he set with his daily activities and ministry outreaches.
Interestingly, Paul didn’t say “follow me” and just leave it there! The words he added bring us to today’s thought . . . “Follow me as I follow Christ!”

A Problem Exposed
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
The words of the prophet Haggai exposed a problem: “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.” (Haggai 1:6-7)
