What Will You Give Me?
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
But Abram said, “O Lord GOD, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”(Genesis 15:1-2 ESV)

Walk Before
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
For you have delivered my soul from death,
yes, my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life. Psalm 56:13
What does it mean to walk before someone, much less God? Is it to walk ahead of them, walk towards them, walk in sync with them instead of at your own pace?
When we walk before God, He has our back – He is protecting us, yet also directing us. He can see the whole picture, not just the path ahead as we do through our tunnel vision. No one can sneak up from behind out of our view. He is there to let us know if danger is coming.

Cut Away

Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. Acts 16:3
Ouch. As women, perhaps we can’t fully understand the pain Timothy must have endured. He must have been very strong in faith and really desiring to go with Paul to agree to this ceremony. What can we learn from Timothy?

Blueberry Days
By Julie B Cosgrove | 2 Comments
Things had been building up for over a week. Like microscopic cactus thorns embedded in my fingers I could not remove, the “go wrongs” were multiplying. I tried to keep a positive outlook, telling myself there were lessons in these, that God loved me and was in control, and this was another test of faith I was determined to pass. My favorite passage, Matthew 6:25-31 kept seeping into my mind – “be ye not anxious . . . seek ye first the kingdom . . .”

Weaned and Quieted
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Psalm 131
1 O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3 O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.

Patience, Please
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Psalm 62:1 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.
My mother always told me patience is a virtue. I just was not born with much of it. I’m a doer, a fixer. I can’t stand to sit around and wait. Instead, I must keep busy. That actually helps to calm the anxious butterflies crashing against the walls of my stomach and the myriad of thoughts bouncing like BB’s back and forth in my brain.

Spoiled and Disarmed

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Is God really for us? How many times have we asked ourselves that question when things don’t go our way or when we see things happen that we don’t understand, especially after we’ve prayed about them?
The fact is, God is not only FOR us, He’s reconciled TO us. He’s not against us, He’s in covenant WITH us, He’s working FOR us on our behalf. All that He is and all that He has; all that He does and all that He plans to do is for us. Even when it seems that His acts are against us, you can be assured that they are for us, someway or somehow.
