What Does It Take?

By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. (Matthew 28:16-17 ESV) (Emphasis mine).

What does it take to convince some folk, right?  The stone had been rolled away. His burial linens were all that were inside. Disciples had reported seeing Him on the road to Emmaus and eating fish with Him . Jesus had told them these events would unfold as they walked the byways of Israel towards Jerusalem and broke bread together in the Upper Room. Even as Jesus appears in risen form and they bow down to worship Him, some doubted – some, not just poor old Thomas. He was the only one to voice his thoughts.

Trust – the Center

Another email  from a friend. One of those look you have to read this or see this video type. They inundate my email box, especially this time of year. This one I had heard, but had shoved way back into the file cabinet of my brain. It was a Godly whisper to me to remind me about the center of the Bible. I am glad it lay in my inbox. Lately, I have felt a little out of whack.

Rain and Ravens

By Julie B Cosgrove | 2 Comments

In the book of I Kings, Elijah tells the disobedient king Ahab that there will be no dew nor rain on the earth “except by my word”. That word, of course, comes directly from God because Elijah is His faithful prophet – or mouthpiece.  So what does God do? He tells Elijah – “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.”(I Kings 17:3).

Yet I Rejoice – when God makes me.

Times are tough. Many people are out of work, or facing financial difficulty because their retirement has evaporated from poor investing strategies, or their company downsized so they have had to find anything, even a minimum wage job.  Perhapss, like me they are suddenly without a spouse’s income through death,  or  possibly through divorce. It all can seem so bleak. Anxiety begins to press against the walls of your heart. You feel as if you are spiraling downwards.  Costs pileup, and the money coming in (if any) can’t match it.  If that is you, then the passage assigned to this past Sunday will speak to your soul as it did to mine.

Bank on It

By Julie B Cosgrove | 3 Comments

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places . . . Ephesians 1:3

Can you wrap your mind around that statement?  We have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing.

When my husband passed away, I was given a certain amount of money from his life insurance policy. Since our insurance company has their own bank, I was also given a book of checks I could use so I could dip into that money reserve in case of need.  It is a comfort that I have a bit  of financial security in reserve just in case the need arises.Though I can never receive any more money from the life insurance, I know what I have is there whenever I need it.

On God Authority

By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off

So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me.  John 8:28

Are you one to bite your tongue, swallow down your thoughts and never make a comment? OR do you have foot-in-mouth disease? Do you always wish after the fact you had not blurted out and spoken your mind so hastily? How many bruised feelings and heartaches are caused when we open our mouths before engaging, not only our brains, but our prayers? My times scroll across my heart just thinking about it. You,too?

Until We Proclaim

O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
your power to all those to come.  Psalm 72:17-18
