Fear and Honor
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. (1 Peter 2:17 ESV)
We should fear God, but honor those whom God, who is in control, has put into office to govern us. Sound advice in an election year when most of what we hear, and will hear iuntil November , is negative about the candidates by either the biased media or the opposing campaign. Whether it is the local school board superintendent or the president of the United States, by the time they are elected they have so much mud slung onto them, it is hard to see through it. But God does. So should we.

My Sunday
By Julie B Cosgrove | 2 Comments
At 5 o’clock in the morning the silence awoke me. No ceiling fan whir, no hum of the computer at my desk in my bedroom, and no whoosh of the AC unit. Outside my apartment window the world was pitch black, which is unusual since the grounds are usually lit up like a Christmas tree year round. Power outage. So, I went back to sleep lulled by the soft rain and occasional rumble of thunder. It was a long overdue, deeply peaceful and restful snooze. When I awoke and looked at my cell phone. It was 9:10 am!

Just Feed ‘em

When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” Mark 6:34-37

Take Control
By Jan Ross | 1 Comment
Sometimes our emotions are far from being responsive to God in praise. But the Psalmist makes it very clear that we have control over our emotions . . . that we can deliberately turn our despair into praise and bless the Lord!
David asked himself a question, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.” (Psalm 42:5) If we can inquire about our soul’s disquieted state, what prevents us from changing it by an act of our will! For the most part, we are not victims of our emotions; our emotions are subject to us! They are a choice!

Spoiled and Disarmed

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Is God really for us? How many times have we asked ourselves that question when things don’t go our way or when we see things happen that we don’t understand, especially after we’ve prayed about them?
The fact is, God is not only FOR us, He’s reconciled TO us. He’s not against us, He’s in covenant WITH us, He’s working FOR us on our behalf. All that He is and all that He has; all that He does and all that He plans to do is for us. Even when it seems that His acts are against us, you can be assured that they are for us, someway or somehow.

A Problem Exposed
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
The words of the prophet Haggai exposed a problem: “Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.” (Haggai 1:6-7)

What Motivates You?
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
My heart is full—overwhelmed would be a more accurate word. There is little hope I will ever be able to articulate every detail, let alone absorb everything I’ve heard and witnessed these past two weeks to my own personal satisfaction. But nonetheless, I want to attempt to share a few thoughts with you which have been weighing heavily on my heart.
