Clean Hands
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
I wash my hands in innocence and go around your altar, O Lord Psalm 26:6
I grew up as a tomboy. I wish I had a dollar for each time my mother called out when she heard me coming in as I banged the screen door, “Julie, go wash your hands.” I’d be retired by now and lounging on a Carribean island! I hated to take the time to wash my hands. What as a little dirt? She’d cluck her teeth and say, “Clean hands make a clean heart.” Sure enough, when it was time for me to be the mother of a little boy who liked to be outside, I became just like her, calling out each time he came in the house, “Go wash your hands.”

Wipe your Feet
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
One of the things our church does each year during Holy Week is to wash feet the way Jesus washed the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. The pastor and the elders wait at the altar with towels and tubs of water for anyone who wants to come forward. Feet can be stinky and are quite honestly not the prettiest part of our body. We can know someone for years and never see their feet. This ceremony can make you feel rather exposed, like being undressed. Perhaps you have participated in this ceremony as a washer or wash-ee. It’s a very humbling event.

Drawing From the Well
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
The prophet Isaiah said, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation” (Isaiah 12:2-3).
If God is truly our salvation, we must trust, and not be afraid that the God we trust in will fail us. Is the Lord Jehovah our salvation? Then he will be our strength and our song. He surely will strengthen us with all might by His Spirit for He is our strength. We can depend upon him to comfort us in all our tribulations for He is our song! He will put a song in our hearts even in the darkest hours we walk through.

Time-Transcending Knowledge
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
How can mortal mind begin to comprehend the ways of our Lord? He has no bounds; there is no limit to His understanding and knowledge. There is no place He hasn’t been or anything He hasn’t considered. He knows all, past, present and future.
That’s an interesting thought: He knows everything past, present and future. Some would want to attribute this type of time-transcending knowledge to those with “psychic powers”, the enemy’s counterfeit for the omniscience and omnipresence of the Most High God.

New Song
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Psalm 40-3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
I love music. I relate to it. When a new song comes on the radio, especially from an artist I like (the Newsboys, Casting Crowns, Third Day), I listen intently. I can’t wait for the station to play it again so I can learn the words and sing along. I think about that song off and on during the day and find myself humming it. It is on the front of my thoughts. Do you do that?

A New Year – A New Thing
By Jan Ross | 1 Comment
God is always taking us forward, leading and guiding us into unknown territories as we learn to lean on Him in greater measure. God made a promise to Israel that He would do yet greater things for them than He had already done in the past. The testimony of their forefathers was tremendous; God had proven Himself mighty, doing wonders far beyond their expectations. Yet, He promised to do even greater things in the future—New Things!
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)

A New Year’s Look
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
The Psalmist, through the picturesque words penned at a time when he was awesomely aware of God’s presence as recorded in Psalm 121:1-2, was probably speaking about the “hill” on which the temple was built, Mount Moriah. When he was at a distance, he would look toward the sanctuary, knowing his help came from there; he knew his help and strength came from the Lord.
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.“ (Psalm 121:1-2)
