Covered
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Whoever covers an offense seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9
What should you do when someone offends you? Over and over Scripture tells us to forgive and move on.
The Lord’s Prayer says “forgive us our trespasses AS we forgive those who trespass against us.”
I Peter 4:8 states: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
Jesus, when asked how often we should forgive, said “Seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18:22)

Scape Goat
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the people of Israel, and all their transgressions, all their sins. And he shall put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness. The goat shall bear all their iniquities on itself to a remote area, and he shall let the goat go free in the wilderness. Leviticus 16:21-22

Conviction!
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Conviction! Cain was considering his inadequate offering to the Lord; the Lord was displeased and spoke to Cain the words recorded in Genesis 4:7: “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” Cain made a choice – the wrong choice – and suffered the consequences!
How many times have we ignored that small, still voice and continued in our sin? How many times have we turned and blamed God for the consequences of our own sin?

Pour It Out
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Have you ever found yourself struggling with the right words to pray when things are tough? Do you find yourself guarding your own words so you don’t say the wrong thing or become too vulnerable in your prayers? One of the hardest things for us to do is to be down-right honest and transparent with our Father when we’re hurt, in trouble, or facing major difficulties.
Listen to the passion in David’s words today: “I poured out my complaint before Him; I showed before Him my trouble.” (Psalm 142:2)

What Can We Do?
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” (Proverbs 29:2)
Matthew Henry brings greater understanding to today’s verse:
The people will have cause to rejoice or mourn according as their rulers are righteous or wicked; for, if the righteous be in authority, sin will be punished and restrained, religion and virtue will be supported and kept in reputation; but, if the wicked get power in their hands, wickedness will abound, religion and religious people will be persecuted, and so the ends of government will be perverted.

Burden of Bitterness
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Have you ever tried to pick up something that was too heavy? What was your immediate reaction? Most likely you cried out in pain and dropped it, or kept silent and suffered for it later. Regardless of your reaction, you reacted.
The burden of bitterness is too heavy for anyone to carry. In fact, if we pick it up and attempt to carry it, it will weigh us down and eventually crush us to the point that we will be unable to function. Yet, day after day we pick up bitterness and try to walk around with it strapped on our back.

Incredible Portrait
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Every time I read the story of the prodigal son, I’m reduced me to tears. As a parent, this gives me hope beyond measure. This son had squandered everything his father had given him; he spent all his inheritance and partied until there was no partying left. But the depth of the father’s love was untouched by the son’s sin. He welcomed him home with arms opened wide.
“And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.“ (Luke 15:20)
