F.E.A.R.

I was in a workshop over the weekend, listening to a motivational speaker who said it is fear that keeps people from being their potential. It was a secular organization, so I know he couldn’t mention God. He danced around the fact that we need God to find strength and purpose outside of ourselves. As I wrote notes on his lecture, it hit me what fear really is -
Forgetting the Eternal Almighty Reigns.

Be a Joseph
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
When he summoned a famine on the land and broke all supply of bread, he had sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. (Psalm 105:16-17 ESV)
Famines come in many forms. We hear of the starving children in Africa, read about drought stricken areas where there is no enough water for crops, see the ravages of natural disaster on the news. But there is another famine spreading here in this abundant and plentiful land in North America. It is a famine of faith.

Move to the Faith Side
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
I had what I thought was a great idea when rearranging my furniture. To save my back, and a bit of time, I piled little things into my office chair on wheels, the things I wasn’t sure about where they’d fit in the new arrangement. However, when I tried to move the chair, it barely budged. I’d added way too much weight to it and had defeated my purpose. Instead of taking the time to move the little things one by one and figuring out where they’d go, I wasted time by piling them up.

Bank on It
By Julie B Cosgrove | 3 Comments
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places . . . Ephesians 1:3
Can you wrap your mind around that statement? We have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing.
When my husband passed away, I was given a certain amount of money from his life insurance policy. Since our insurance company has their own bank, I was also given a book of checks I could use so I could dip into that money reserve in case of need. It is a comfort that I have a bit of financial security in reserve just in case the need arises.Though I can never receive any more money from the life insurance, I know what I have is there whenever I need it.

‘Ere the Two Should Meet
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Faithfulness springs up from the ground, and righteousness looks down from the sky. Psalm 85:11
I love that image. Humanity and God meet somewhere in between our faith and His righteousness.
We worship a God who so desires our companionship that He sacrificed Himself to bridge the gap. In other religions, mankind strives to reach a state of goodness so that the Holy can become a part of their lives. Few in those religions achieve that state. But for the Christian, all we have to do is admit we are not good enough and ask for mercy. As Paul says in Romans, we have all fallen short.

Counting it All
By Ja'Les | 3 Comments
I love the energy and hope one feels when family and friends gather near and count down the New Year. What I most love is on New Year’s Eve taking out my journal and reflecting. As I turn the pages, I stand in awe of God’s grace and mercy allowing me to go through the storms and come through stronger in faith and richer in love I find myself truly meditating on the scripture James 1:2-4 NKJV “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Cut Away

Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. Acts 16:3
Ouch. As women, perhaps we can’t fully understand the pain Timothy must have endured. He must have been very strong in faith and really desiring to go with Paul to agree to this ceremony. What can we learn from Timothy?
