FAITHFUL

‘And I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you had not built, and you have lived in them; you are eating of vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.’ (Joshua 24:13)

Shortly before Joshua died, he gathered the elders, judges and officers of Israel to him, and through him, God spoke to Israel, and reminded them of their history, all the way from Abraham. (Joshua 24:1-13)

I love the fact that God, in first person, recounted the highlights of their journey with Him. He made it clear that He, and He alone, had cleared the way for them in miraculous ways:

What Does It Take?

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. (Matthew 28:16-17 ESV) (Emphasis mine).

What does it take to convince some folk, right?  The stone had been rolled away. His burial linens were all that were inside. Disciples had reported seeing Him on the road to Emmaus and eating fish with Him . Jesus had told them these events would unfold as they walked the byways of Israel towards Jerusalem and broke bread together in the Upper Room. Even as Jesus appears in risen form and they bow down to worship Him, some doubted – some, not just poor old Thomas. He was the only one to voice his thoughts.

Cling!

A little over a week ago, CNN.com posted an article, titled, “4 Big Myths of Book of Revelation.” The article takes information from a book with a similar title, Revelations: Visions, Prophecy & Politics in the Book of Revelation. The author, a woman named Elaine Pagels, is described by CNN as “one of the world’s leading biblical scholars.”

However, as the article progresses, it becomes quite apparent that if Ms. Pagels is a biblical scholar, she is not filled with the Holy Spirit, because she does not know truth. And she certainly does not seem to realize that each book in the Bible is supported by scripture in other books; that none stand alone. You cannot take a book like Revelation by itself, and claim to know what it purports.

Point of View

I had never seen my church like that before.

Our church is built in the old style with high wood arches and stained glass windows. There is a small balcony at the back, I guess an ancient choir loft. My sister, son, niece, and her two girls came for Easter services. Because one of my great nieces was feeling puny, the other is wiggly, and I am still recovering from my bouts of residual asthma from bronchitis, I thought it would be advantageous to sit up there away from the crowds jammed into the pews.

The Green Tree

Luke, the physician, had a keen eye for the details of Jesus’ life. He often recorded things he saw that the other writers of the gospel didn’t feel were of enough importance. And so on that Good Friday, as Jesus was trying to carry his cross to Calvary, the place known as “The Skull,” His steps began to falter because of the loss of so much blood after the horrific lashing He’d received with a whip that had small, sharp pieces of metal on the end. It was a beating that rendered most men completely helpless.

Remember Me

When I go on websites to become a member, I have to set up passwords and User IDs. Then,  I get a pop up window that asks if I would like the computer to remember me.  That way, every time I go to the website again, I don’t have to rack my brain or hunt down the list of all the websites and all the individual ways I have set up to enter them. I just click , the computer does its thing, and I get a “welcome Julie” on the top banner. Easy.

No need to fear

By Gwenn McKone | 8 Comments

There’s a lot to be afraid of anymore. I was watching a Christian talk show about a week ago, and they were talking about transfat, and how it’s becoming apparent that it contributes toward Alzheimer’s disease. It literally shrinks your brain, and seems to also contribute to strokes. In fact, New York City and Philadelphia have outlawed transfats in all of their restaurants and other metropolitan areas have followed suit.

Then there are the school shootings that seem to be popping up everywhere. And Obamacare. Cancer. Hurricanes and tornadoes. Identity theft. Heart disease. Drunk drivers. People who abscond children for sex trafficking. Unemployment. And the list goes on.
