Stir It Up

By Ja'Les | 2 Comments

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV

I love this passage of scripture because it reminds us to stir up the gift of God and affirms this gifting is in us. Life can weigh us down and keep us so busy that when we take a moment to really evaluate our lives-we realize that though we are busy, we may not be effectively using our gifting. This effects not only our personal merit and esteem but deprives our loved ones and community of sharing something that only we can bring.

I love the energy and hope one feels when family and friends gather near and count down the New Year. What I most love is on New Year’s Eve taking out my journal and reflecting. As I turn the pages, I stand in awe of God’s grace and mercy allowing me to go through the storms and come through stronger in faith and richer in love I find myself truly meditating on the scripture James 1:2-4 NKJV “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

I’m Choosing Not to Lose Heart

I believe each of us have seasons in life where things are moving so swiftly that we must make a deliberate decision to seek stillness.  I have begun to truly appreciate each day as the gift that it is whether the day brings forth unexpected blessings or stumbling blocks. I must understand that God holds all my tomorrows and that my faith, outlook and behaivor will discern whether I become bitter or better. I can not control others thoughts or actions towards me ,however I can choose to remain grounded in the word of God pressing towards the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I meditate on such scriptures as: Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)” For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please man? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.”  and Ephesians 4:29-32 “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bittterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and eveil speaking  be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as  God in Christ forgave you.”.

Praising God Even When I am Weary

By Ja'Les | Comments Off

When I woke up this morning I was greeted with weariness and I quickly recited this scripture out loud

Galatians 6:9 (New International Version) “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

I know this may sound like a play with words but I have found myself meditating, praying and seeking God’s wisdom regarding being sick or S.I.C.?  When I say S.I.C., I am referring to an acronym I use to describe a Sister in Christ, a woman who edifies, encourages and intercedes on a fellow sister’s behalf.  I have found few S.I.C women but have encountered several sick women. Women who are sick with envy, jealousy, gossiping or backbiting are not exemplifying the attributes described in Galatians 5:22-23 (New International Version)
