Count Your Blessings
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
“Count your blessings, name them one by one … Count your many blessings, see what God has done.” A familiar song to those brought up in the church. But, when was the last time you actually did this?
It is easy to become so overwhelmed with life’s circumstances and situations that we become blinded to the fact that God has indeed dealt bountifully with us! His mercies are never ending; His loving kindness is greater than life itself! His salvation is sure and His forgiveness is complete! His peace is real in the face of every storm; His provision is made manifest in the face of every need!

No Other Potter

Abraham had received the promise from God years before He spoke as recorded in Genesis 17:1: “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.” In fact, so many years had passed that his faith was being challenged by the aging process of his own body as well as that of his wife.
Yet, we’re told in Romans 4:20 that Abraham “staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God“.

Everlasting to Everlasting
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Eternity, a time which knows no measure, no beginning and no end. Our God was, and is and will be forevermore, from everlasting to everlasting—eternal. Before the earth was formed, He was! Before the heavens were measured out, His throne was established! Before the stars were set in place, His plans for your life were set in motion!
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” (Psalm 90:2)

A Sweet Savour
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
As you read through Exodus and other parts of the Old Testament you become increasingly aware of how much sacrifice plays a part in man’s relationship with God whether on a physical altar or through Jesus Christ.
“And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.” (Exodus 29:18)
The activity in the outer court was centered around sacrifice … an animal was killed, the blood used for holy purposes, and the flesh was put on the altar as a burnt offering to the Lord. And, God said it was a “sweet savour” unto Him … “an offering made by fire unto the Lord.”

In Perfect Alignment

Nimrod, whose name means “rebellion”, sought to build a tower reaching the heavens so they could make a name for themselves. The earth was of one language, the people were one, and because of that they were powerful; there was nothing they could not accomplish because they were in one accord.
“And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” (Genesis 11:6-7)

Drawing From the Wells
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
The prophet Isaiah said, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2-3)
If God is truly our salvation, we must trust, and not be afraid that the God we trust in will fail us. Is the Lord Jehovah our salvation? Then he will be our strength and our song. He surely will strengthen us with all might by His Spirit for He is our strength. We can depend upon him to comfort us in all our tribulations for He is our song! He will put a song in our hearts even in the darkest hours we walk through.

Time-Transcending Knowlege
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
How can mortal mind begin to comprehend the ways of our Lord? He has no bounds; there is no limit to His understanding and knowledge. There is no place He hasn’t been or anything He hasn’t considered. He knows all, past, present and future.
That’s an interesting thought: He knows everything past, present and future. Some would want to attribute this type of time-transcending knowledge to those with “psychic powers”, the enemy’s counterfeit for the omniscience and omnipresence of the Most High God.
