Months of Old

By Julie B Cosgrove

“Oh, that I were as in the months of old,
as in the days when God watched over me,
when his lamp shone upon my head,
and by his light I walked through darkness, ”  Job 29:2-3

There are times when God feels as close as the breeze on your cheeks. Birds sing, rainbows bend to earth, sun shines, life is perfect -or close to it.  Then suddenly everything changes. Clouds loom overhead. You world is stark gray and gloomy. Tragedy is around every corner.  You’d rather crawl back into bed and pull the covers up.  The Grand Canyon has just opened  up in the floor and God is on the other side, barely visible, out of reach. Have you ever felt that way?

What happens in those times? Do you draw nearer to God or pull away and feel abandoned? Is your faith strengthened or does it dissipate into tears?  Belief should not be based on emotions or physical happenings.  Why? Because both are temporary and unreliable.  Neither offer a sturdy enough foundation. It is not so much where God is in all circumstances, but where we think He is – or isn’t.

Believe He will never leave your side. He promised He’d be with you until the end of the ages (Matthew 28:20) - not just when the sun is smiling down on you. He is your refuge in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1). It’s okay to grope in the darkness for His warm, strong hand. His  arm length is endless – He’ll bridge the gap.  He’s waiting.

I agree with this blog it always seems easy to go the other way than to hold on life is very hard for christians right now and it seems hard to hold on to what you know but the to let go is to give up and that goes against everything you could possible amagine going into the unkown is harder to think about but when the storms rise and billows may blow you look for the one you know and not turn away is it pride or is it just weak i dont know i cant see my way clear and when you know that God will bring you out you just hold on as tight as you can and wait for the next storm
