Beauty Bowed Low
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
A few years ago my Pastor did an awesome series of sermons on “The Anointing”. Please allow me to share my heart on his sermon as it was one I will never forget.
“Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take thou also unto thee principal spices . . . of cassia five hundred shekels . . . and thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.” (Exodus 30:22-25)

Spread the Real News
By Julie B Cosgrove | 1 Comment
and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, 21 but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.” Romans 15:20-21
Today, it is hard to fathom that there are people who have not yet heard about Jesus Christ. In Paul’s day, the Good News was still new. With television, radio and the Internet, more and more people are being reached. But here is the problem. There is also a great deal of misinformation out there. People are defining who and what Jesus was and is to meet their own agendas. They are trying to mold Him into their own image.

Focus on Others

Paul a prisoner, under the most adverse conditions, found opportunity to serve the Lord. And, even though he was about to be put on trial for his life, he never forgot to remember a Christian brother who was far away in distance from him, and to cover him in prayer.
“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints”. (Philemon 4-5)

Tried and True – Trust It
By Julie B Cosgrove | 3 Comments
For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. Psalm 66:10
For a silver refiner to “try” silver, he must remove the impurities called dross from it. That is how it gets its purity. The best way to do this is to insert the silver into intense heat long enough for the metal to soften and the impurities to rise to the surface. Then the refiner scoops off the dross, leaving the shiny silver. When he can see his face clearly in the glow of the liquid metal, he knows it is purified. He has “tried” it and found it to be true.

Yesterday’s Clothes Stink!
By Jan Ross | 2 Comments
Many years ago I had a precious friend. She didn’t have much in this life but several small children and a husband who believed it was more important for him to be everywhere else other than home. She struggled with daily routines yet she was so sweet. I determined in my heart to help her as much as I could since we didn’t have any children at that time. I can easily remember going to her apartment and finding dishes several days old in the sink, children running around in soiled clothes, beds unmade, bathrooms needing scrubbed – in other words, the house needed a LOT of help. My friend loved the Lord, but she couldn’t rise above her lack of daily disciplines to care for her family in a way that would be pleasing to Him. I spoke with her often about it, loving her through it all, but she had a difficult time making any change last. As awful as it sounds, I know of times she would take dirty clothes out of the laundry pile and put them on to go to the store or to church. Obviously, it was no secret to those around her that daily disciplines were an issue for her. I lost touch with her after we moved away and often wonder if things ever changed for her.

Words to Live By
By Julie B Cosgrove | Comments Off
Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life Psalm 119:49-50
While helping a friend pack moving boxes, I noticed in a drawer all of these cards – birthday, anniversary, get well. Some were crayon scribbled, some professionally printed, some with poems, some with humor. She smiled and said she never throws away a card. When she gets down in the dumps, she pulls them out and remembers how much she means to friends and family and how much they mean to her. She recalls the good and the bad, and that through all the tears and smiles she was not alone.

Year-Round Growing Season
By Jan Ross | Comments Off
Watching our garden grow is a delight for us. My husband does the planting, cultivating, weeding, and reaping. My part begins when the vegetables are harvested. Preserving vegetables is something I look forward to each summer. While it’s hard work, it is so satisfying to know the food we eat throughout the year was grown in our own yard under the watchful and wise care of my husband.
Unfortunately, however, our growing season is limited to a few short summer months. We don’t enjoy a year-round growing season like many countries do … we are limited by seasons and weather.
