Who Do You Tell?

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.” Matthew 18:15
What do you do when someone hurts your feelings, or speaks cruelly, or acts inappropriately? Do you shy away, lick your wounds and distance yourself from them? Do you hold a grudge and see them in a negative light? Do you run to another friend, tell all and seek empathy? Or do you go to God, pray for discernment and ask for a forgiving heart? In this passage, Jesus tells us to go to that person, pull them aside to where no one else can hear or see, then talk with them.

The Name

As a child, I can remember feeling picked on because I was adopted. I was different. Our family was like a patchwork quilt with no resemblance between parents and children. It was almost as if I had a sign stamped on my forehead: “PECULIAR!”
Today, I look back on that and wonder if perhaps God was preparing me for a “peculiar” life with Him. The fact is, however, that everyone who names the name of Jesus Christ is indeed peculiar. We stand out from the crowd. Our lives bear the fragrance of His presence.

Promise Keeper

The word “promise” seems to have lost its impact in modern days. People make promises day after day and break them on the in-between days.
“Promises are meant to be broken” is a familiar phrase. With this mindset it is difficult to comprehend the depth of God’s love and commitment to us through His covenant with us, simply because we know how untrustworthy we are ourselves.
“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.“ (Genesis 9:13)

Can’t He Provide?

He struck the rock so that water gushed out and streams overflowed.
Can he also give bread or provide meat for his people?” Psalm 78:20
Recently at a talk I gave on my book P.R.A.Y.I.N.G., a lady said she had gotten an email cartoon picture of a man complaining that a small rock had bopped him on the head. He asked why God had allowed that to happen. The next picture shows Jesus warding off thousands of huge boulders from crushing the guy. Another lady said she was reviewing an old journal entry when she felt a bit down and distant from God. She used to pray as a teenager she could live near water. As she read that and remembered how much that had been her hearts desire so many years ago, she looked out over her swimming pool to the horizon of the lake near her house. Yes, God does hear.

Peace Speaker

Such awesome power that when the waves of the sea rise up, our God can still them! No small miracle! Who else can claim to control even the winds and the rains? None! No one but our God!
“Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.“ (Psalm 89:9)
But the waves and rage of the seas are not the only tumults He calms by the mere raising His hand. As you go through difficult times in your life, it is His arm that stills the waves of depression, poverty, sickness, disappointment and disillusionment. Take a few moments and meditate on Psalm 89:9. Our God is so mighty! He’s so powerful! He loves us so much!

Day and Night

On the day that the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony. And at evening it was over the tabernacle like the appearance of fire until morning. Numbers 9:15
When the Hebrews were wandering in the desert, they carried the arc of the covenant with them in the tabernacle. In it were the commandments of God- basically His Word to them. Why was it covered by a cloud during the day and a fire by night? What did that mean and what can it mean for us over three thousand years later?
