This is true that sometimes we all just feel as if a path we are going down is wrong for us, or that we feel we deserve to be in a better place. However, it is so clear that in times of sorrow and despair we learn the most about ourselves and about God in general.

In verse 3 of Psalm 23, David says, "He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for his namesake." I think that David means that even though we may think a path is difficult or "not for us", it is clearly the intended "right path" for us and will be good for the kingdom in general and our own ministry.

When I think of ultimate trust in God I always remember when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were about to be thrown in the fire and said to the King, "Nebuchadnessar, we don't need to give you an answer to this question. If the God we serve exists, then he can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. But even if He doesn't rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up." Daniel 3:16-18 What an awesome statement, they had such trust that God had their best interest at heart! If we could only live that way through fiery trials ourselves!

Because we know the outcome of that story, how they were saved with all bonds broken. Awesome....
