“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth. I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119: 103-105
They say actions speak louder than words. That may be true, but words are powerful. Especially kind ones, ones that express love and comfort. Words can connect people across great distances. These words are reaching you and I have no idea where you are. Whether they are texted into a Blackberry, or sent in a greeting card, or scrawled on a piece of scrap paper, the power is not diminished.
The Psalmist knew the power of God’s Word in his life. It gave him direction. It gave him pleasure. Like the sweet taste of honey, it satisfied the hunger in his soul. God’s words gave him understanding. The same is true for us today, isn’ t it. Has there ever been a book so powerful, so instrumental in daily changing lives than the Holy Bible?
Today, we are so blesssed to have it at our fingertips. There are many treanslations. We can get it in leather bound editions or in paperback, or even on the Internet. It comes in DVD form or taped. It is in many, many languages and comes in pocket size all the way up to coffee table size. There is a Bible for pre-schoolers, teens, women and men. The Bible has probably never been so available than nowadays. But do we use it?
If you are in an uncertain place in your life, if you need a light on your path to make sure you are heading in the right direction, turn to the Word. Pray for God to open your mind and your heart to receive the direction He wants to give you. The more your read, the more understanding you will receive. We can never say “Oh, I’ve read that.” when it comes ot the Bible. It is living, and has purpose. There are passages I have heard all of my life, yet the Lord reveals new truths in them. It never fails to astonish me, and it makes me want more – like honey.
Dear Lord, light my path today with your Word. Guide my footsteps through this day, guard my tomgue and let the words that flow from my mouth be of encouragement and love to others, as your Word is to me. Help me to memorize Your Word to combat evil, thwart depression and dissolve anxieties. If I am filled with Your Word, I am filled with Your Spirit. Through Your Son, whose Words on the Cross saved us all, Amen.
